Pogrom in Europe, International Lawfare - What's the Connection?

Dear Friends,

On November 7, 2024, a violent pogrom against Jews took place in Amsterdam following a soccer game in which the Israeli team, Maccabi Tel Aviv, played against the Dutch Ajax team. A significant number of Israeli fans were in Amsterdam for the game and became targets of this vicious assault. As demonstrated by messages on WhatsApp and Telegram - as well as pictures taken by the perpetrators themselves - dangerous attacks on Jews as they left the soccer stadium were strategized and coordinated in advance.

An organized mob of Arab and Muslim immigrants carried out the pre-planned assault, hunting Jews in the streets of a European city in a way that has not occurred since the Holocaust. The fact that this modern-day pogrom was carried out on the eve of the 86th anniversary of Kristallnacht - the Nazi pogrom against German Jews that paved the way for the Holocaust - makes last week's events that much more chilling.

The horrific actions against the Jewish people in 20th-century Europe - including the annihilation of 6 million of them - were preceded by hate-filled rhetoric, false accusations, and incitement. The same pattern is playing out today. Anti-Israel rallies threatening the safety of Jews on city streets in the Western world and the violent demonstration of Jew-hatred in Amsterdam last week are all fueled by language that demonizes and delegitimizes Israel and the Jewish people.

One particularly dangerous form of anti-Israel verbiage manifests in the form of lawfare against the Jewish State on the international level. This alternative form of warfare is spearheaded by the country of South Africa and is an important part of the strategy of Israel's enemies to bring about its destruction.

As the Jewish State fights deadly enemies on its northern and southern borders while also facing the threat of a third assault from Iran, it is more important than ever that we also understand the dangers posed by the use of deceptive and manipulative words. This is because the same tactics and consequences of demonizing and delegitimizing the Jewish State in the world arena occur on all levels of society, including the local. Therefore, an understanding of this form of warfare enables all of us who stand with Israel to counter Jew-hatred in practical ways wherever it may appear.

We are privileged to hear from Rev. Malcolm Hedding, an internationally recognized leader and teacher on Israel and the church who is also South African. He therefore has unique insights into the implications of South Africa's efforts to demonize Israel on the world stage and important strategies for how to counter such efforts on all levels, including the local.

You will leave this event equipped to be a more effective advocate for Israel. You will also be encouraged and strengthened by spending time with like-minded people who are ready to stand together against every manifestation of Jew-hatred and anti-Zionism in Naples and beyond.
