Christian Peacemaking, Dangerous Polemics, Inflammatory Libels

Tricia Miller, Ph.D. and Dexter Van Zile

Dear Christian Leader,

There is an ever intensifying focus in much of the Christian world on finding a peaceful solution for the Arab-Israeli conflict. This is certainly a desirable goal!

Unfortunately however, the Christian peacemaking movement - more often than not - advocates for Palestinian self-determination while rejecting the right of Jews to self-determination in their ancient homeland.

Furthermore, dangerous polemics and inflammatory libels that form the foundation of the peacemaking narrative effectively work against the cause for peace because they:

 - Legitimize an intrenched Palestinian anti-Israel position
- Justify Palestinian violence against Israeli citizens
- Discourage Palestinian motivation to work for peace
- Delegitimize Israel's right to exist
- Demonize Israeli efforts at self-defense

To learn more about the problematic results of the Christian peacemaking movement and the positive effect for peace concerned Christians can have

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT!

In a Partnership of Christians and Jews webinar on February 26th, Tricia Miller presented an in-depth discussion of the meaning of Purim and what it teaches us about the importance of our actions in the face of great evil. She addressed questions such as:

Is it significant for Christians that Jews in the ancient Persian Empire - which included the land of Israel - were saved from annihilation almost 500 years before the birth of Jesus?

If so, then how is the celebration of Purim relevant to the Christian faith?

What role do we have to play in a world where antisemitism continues to intensify and the State of Israel faces increased opposition to its existence as a Jewish State?

Indeed, what is the message of Esther and Purim for Christians and Jews today?
